![]() ![]() ![]() “Doing drag has inadvertently taught me so many things I never thought I’d ever learn in my lifetime. She went on to tell us about how this somewhat new passion has already begun to change her as a person and change the direction of her life. “It’s funny–drag is a passion I didn’t even realize I had, and now I can’t imagine my life without it,” she said. She is a self described “accidental drag queen” who went out on the town in drag one Halloween with her friend (and one of our Cycle 4 Queens of the Week), Pearl, and was booked for a show that same night. While some might suspect that Kim Chi came into drag through her designing talents, she tells us a very different tale of how she came to be involved with drag. “Around the time I was choosing my drag name, I felt like Koreans were very underrepresented in Chicago gay culture, so I wanted to pick something that was very stereotypically Korean, but also easy for everyone to pronounce and grasp.” She explained the reason for her drag name’s origin to us. Her name even comes from a traditional Korean dish. As an immigrant from Korea, Kim Chi strives to represent the best of herself as a person, and the best of her Korean culture and heritage. Kim Chi is a stunning force to be reckoned with when she gets in front of a camera, and her high-fashion couture looks could put some of the New York Fashion Week runway looks to shame. We’re rounding out Cycle 5 of our ‘Queen of the Week’ series with a high fashion beauty from Chicago.
